Your Long Weekend Itinerary
Four days on the Chesapeake gives you enough time to truly explore. Here’s what a perfect long weekend Annapolis charter looks like:
Day 1: Set sail from Annapolis Harbor and head southwest past the historic Thomas Point Lighthouse, built in 1875 and still an important navigation beacon.
Your destination is Herrington Harbor South (about 17 nautical miles), a resort-style marina with swimming pools, private beaches, and waterfront dining.
Day 2: The sail to Solomons Island is your longest run, with about 34 nautical miles of open water sailing. Pack a good lunch to eat on board. Solomons is a picturesque fishing village where the Patuxent River meets the Bay, with a charming mile-and-a-half downtown full of restaurants, shops, and the excellent Calvert Marine Museum.
End the day at The Tiki Bar, the first completely open-air bar in Southern Maryland (the Mai-Tai is the house specialty).
Day 3: Head to Cambridge, one of Maryland’s oldest towns, settled in 1684. The sail is about 41 nautical miles, so plan accordingly.
Once docked at Cambridge Yacht Basin or River Marsh Marina, explore the historic downtown lined with elegant 19th-century homes.
Day 4: The sail back to Annapolis covers about 39 nautical miles. If you’ve made good time, anchor in Whitehall Bay or Mill Creek for a swim and snacks before returning to the dock. You’ll arrive with enough time to explore downtown Annapolis or head home at a comfortable hour.
