Waypoints Welcomes Jay Pennington as USA Operations Director

After a life-changing experience on his first charter vacation, sailing became a way of life for Jay Pennington, USA Operations Base Director for Waypoints. “I spent most of my early life power boating. Then, we went on our first sailing vacation with a group of friends and chartered a 54-foot monohull with a captain for a week. After years of vacationing in the Virgin Islands, my wife and I moved to Saint Thomas, USVI in early 2008.”

Jay went to work for CYOA Yacht Charters in Saint Thomas in 2008 and remained with them through the acquisition by Waypoints earlier this year. Jay says, “I have been involved in every aspect of the industry. I started out doing client briefings, customer service, and repairs to vessels. I have worked with our social media and advertising. I have also been involved in boat sales and charter bookings. I was part of a team that brought world-class boats and services to the Saint Thomas location.

Jay has recently accepted a new role in Waypoints as “USA Operations Base Director.” He will oversee the US bases and ensure that all operate at the same Waypoints elevated charter standard. His expertise and dedication are unmatched. Waypoints President Kirstie Palmer says, “Jay brings to the table a lifetime of experience in the charter industry in operating a base and encouraging a high standard for both owners and customers. I am truly pleased and excited to have Jay in this position to support our US bases with all their needs.”

Through the close affiliation with Atlantic Cruising Yachts and the Fountaine Pajot Group, along with personal experience, Jay is exceptionally well-versed in Fountaine Pajot catamarans. His hands-on experience, skills, and knowledge grew exponentially during his time at the base in Saint Thomas. “As an innovator in the charter industry, we were one of the first charter bases to embrace solar and water makers. We have also started making inroads on lithium batteries,” Jay says, “We have developed processes for quality control, turnaround, and customer service. In my new role, I hope to be able to implement those processes to improve the product at all of our bases, both current and future.”

As USA Operations Base Director, Jay strives to deliver the same high-quality experience for both owners and charter guests at every base. “As a yacht management and charter company, being able to serve both our boat owners and our charter guests is the key to our continued success. I look forward to seeing all of our existing clients and meeting our new clients as well in the coming seasons.”
