Garmin GPS 72/76 Family of Handheld GPS Units The GPS 72/76  family defines a new standard in marine handheld navigation by enhancing Garmin's popular marine handheld GPS receivers with WAAS position correcting capability. The GPS 76 features a 12 parallel channel receiver for fast satellite acquisition and tight satellite lock, along with a built-in basemap of cities, coastlines, lakes, rivers, interstates, and interstate exit information plus a database of nautical navaids.   It also includes one megabyte of internal user memory for storing optional MapSource detailed maps.  This storage is preloaded with worldwide cities (populations of greater than 200,000) information and navigation aids such as lights, buoys, sound signals and day beacons.   An extra-large display gives a clear view and a waterproof case keeps the GPS 76 working well even if it's been submerged in water.  And, the GPS 76 floats if it's accidentally dropped in the water. Navigators who want expanded MapSource storage capability favor the GPSMAP 76.  It's identical in function to the GPS 76 but features eight megabytes of on-board storage capacity. The GPSMap 76S is also identical to the GPSMap 76 in operation, but features additional sensors, including a barometric altimeter and an electronic compass that deliveres precise location, elevation, and bearing information.
