CD-ROM Charts Digital charts on CD-ROM (or floppy disk, too) feature both raster and vector images from many nautical chart sources.  Some even include geo-referenced aerial photographs.  They're in full-color and include all information that you find on traditional charts--depth contours and soundings, nav markers, and more.  Generally, they are only compatible with computer navigation programs and will work with just a few chart plotters.   If you do not have navigation software installed on your computer, check out our marine navigation software page to select a program. Not all digital charts on CD-ROM are compatible with all marine software brands.  Check your users manual for compatibility.   Cartridge Charts Electronic charts for traditional marine electronics devices--chart plotters, GPS receivers, radar units--are supplied on cartridges containing vector images.  Detail levels vary from land outlines plus a couple of depth contours and basic marks to almost all of the details found on a paper chart.  Some chart cartridges contain encoded references for port services, tide and current predictions, and more.
